Identity: A Novel Book Summary
Morgan Albright, who used to move frequently due to her Army background, has finally settled down in a friendly neighborhood near Baltimore. She lives with her friend and roommate, Nina, and they both contribute to paying the mortgage. Morgan works as a bartender to support herself. However, everything changes after they host a dinner party where Luke, an IT guy who had been flirting with Morgan at the bar, attends. Their world quickly falls apart when they discover that the back door glass is broken, valuables like cash and jewelry are missing, Morgan’s car is stolen, and, most devastatingly, Nina is found dead on the floor.
The shocking truth soon emerges: Morgan unknowingly let a dangerous con artist named Gavin into their lives. The charming “Luke” is actually Gavin, who preys on a specific type of woman, stealing her belongings, identity, and ultimately committing murder.
The FBI delivers a bone-chilling revelation to Morgan: Nina was not Gavin’s intended target—Morgan was. Unfortunately, Nina happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Morgan’s nightmare has only just begun, and she has no choice but to escape to her mother’s home in Vermont. As she tries to rebuild her life, she meets a man named Miles Jameson. Unlike Gavin, Miles is not flashy or flirtatious, and his family has deep roots in town due to their longstanding business. However, Gavin is still out there, searching for new victims, and he hasn’t forgotten about the one who got away.
